PROCEDURE TEXT

                                                                     PROCEDURE

Hello everyone !!!
You know that Procedure is one of the materials in grade XII of 2013 Curriculum.  I would be glad to share this topic and wish that it can be useful for those who need to learn. 😊😊

Generally, text types have the social function, text organization, and the language features(grammar) in order to achieve the particular purpose for which is written.  Procedure is one of the text types which also has those features.
1.       Social Function
Procedure tells how to make or to do something by giving a set of steps to follow.  They are :
  •         Instructions
  •         Directions
  •        Rules
  •         Recipes
2.       Text Structure/Organization
An oral or a written text is organized with some of structural pattern in order to be a good composition.
A  procedure text consists of:
·          Goal
The final purpose of what you are trying to do or make.  It is also found on the title of text.
·         Materials
It is what you need, such as ingredients, utensils, equipment to make or to do something.
·         Steps
It is what you do, a set of steps to achieve the goal.

3.       Language Features
Previously, we have discussed that text types not only have different purpose and structure, but also have different grammar.  Procedure text uses grammar as follows:
·         Use of imperatives
E.g.  cut, don’t mix
·         Use of action verbs
E.g.  pour, put, mix
·         Use of connectives (if not numbered)
E.g.  first, then, next, after that, finally
·         Use of adverbial phrases
·         E.g.  for 5 minutes, 2 centimeters from the top

The following text is the example of procedure text of Aceh traditional cake recipes:
